
Suffolk Herbs Purple Loosestrife
Purple Loosestrife produces tapering spikes of purple-red flowers from June to August and dark green willow-like leaves.
It is knows as an excellent gargle and wound cleanser and helps to rapidly stop wounds from bleeding.
This flower is typically found in bogey/wet locations such as along river banks and ponds, in ditches and wet marshes as damp conditions are needed to help grow. Purple loosestrife is pollinated by bees and butterflies as these are both long-toungued insects.
Grows tall to heights of around 1-1.5m (3-4').
When to Sow Purple Loosestrife Seeds
March to May.
Sow Outside
In spring in a very fine seed bed. The seed is lke dust and should barely be covered or, preferably, just watered in with a very fine rose. prefers sun or partial shade ina moist position which does not dry out.
Harvest
June to July. When the plant is flowering.
