Kings Seeds Carrot Flakee (Flak)
Carrot seeds - Flakkee is easy to grow and although considered a main crop variety, can be successionally planted to give a continuous crop, producing large, thick roots. It has a very good colour and flavour. It will thrive in even rather poor soils, but give it some encouragement and you will be amazed and the results.
When to Sow Flakkee Carrot Seeds
April to July.
Where to Sow
Sow carrot seeds thinly direct into the growing site 2cm (¾") deep in rows 30cm (12") apart. If possible, sow carefully so that thinning is not necessary. Aim for roots that will be 5-7cm (2-3") apart.
What to do next
Carrot fly is attracted by the smell whilst thinning carrot seedlings. If you have to thin the seedlings, do so in the evening. Water before thinning and remove all the debris. Do not transplant. Young Carrots can always be pulled alternately to 'thin as you eat'.
Maturity
June to November.
Handy Tip
Never grow carrots on ground that has recently had manure spread, as the roots will fork in search of the goodness.
Nutritional Values
High in anti-oxidant beta carotene which converts to vitamin A in the body.
