This a a victorian variety that has shown strong signs of reliability over the past 100 years. Wheelers Imperial have dark green leafy heads, compact plants with harvest time of mid-April onwards. Has the advantage of being suitable for spring sowing for autumn use.

When to Sow Wheelers Imperial Seeds
July to August. Germination takes 7-14 days.

Where to Sow
Sow seed thinly in a prepared seed bed in shallow drills 2cm (3/4") deep. Keep well watered.

What to do Next
Thin the seedlings as they appear to 5cm ( 2in) apart. Once seedlings are 10-15cm (4-6in) tall, transplant to their final growing site spaced 35-40cm (14-16in) apart. Always set the young plants 1.5cm (1/2in) deeper than they were in the seed bed. Keep well watered during hot dry spells.

Maturity
January to March the following year.

Handy Tip
Feed plants in early spring with a high nitrogen feed to encourage growth. Pick regularly to prevent all cabbages cropping at the same time.

Nutritional Values
Excellent source of vitamin A, C & B. The darkest leaves contain the most nutrients.
